Jardine Engineering Corporation (JEC) supplied and installed much of the sewage treatment equipment for the innovative Stanley Sewage Disposal Scheme. This ambitious engineering scheme is strategically positioned in a network of caverns, creating the first large non-open air sewerage plant built in Southeast Asia. It treats 8,700 cubic meters of effluent a day and has significantly enhanced the environment on the South side of Hong Kong Island.

Project Description
Two treatment caverns, some 90m long, 15m wide, and with heights varying from 11m to 16m, were excavated in the hillside to house two treatment units that process effluent before it is pumped into the sea through a 2.4km submarine pipe.

Project Scope
JEC’s works included all the mechanical and electrical engineering works for the Stanley Sewage Treatment Plant, Stanley Main Pumping Station, and the Subsidiary Pumping Station.
 

JEC supplied and installed the following equipment:

  • Coarse screens, fine screens, screening screw presses, screening conveyors, grit removal and classifying equipment
  • Aeration tank equipment
  • Air blowers
  • Various kinds of pumps such as mixed liquid recycling pumps and sludge press feed pumps
  • Sludge dewatering belt presses
  • Polyelectrolyte dosing equipment
  • Hypochlorite dosing equipment
  • Pipe work and valves
  • Supports and associated fittings
  • Ventilation and air-conditioning system
  • Switchboards and panels
  • Standby generator set with fuel storage and transfer facilities
  • Control and alarm system
  • Other building services works

In this project, JEC showcased its advanced sourcing capabilities and sophisticated technical know-how. The installation on such an extensive project demonstrates JEC’s global vision for creative schemes.
