JEC Project:
North Satellite Concourse Emergency Power System and HVAC Pumps, Hong Kong International Airport

DeveloperHong Kong Airport Authority
JEC ScopeSupply and Installation of HVAC Pumps and Generator Sets
LocationHong Kong
Project Completion Date2009

Jardine Engineering Corporation (JEC) supplied and installed the HVAC system, pumps, and generator sets for the North Satellite Concourse of the Hong Kong International Airport.

Emergency Power System
Airport buildings have different power requirements from standard buildings and JEC specially calculated the generator sets’ ratings to accommodate the unique requirements of the Hong Kong International Airport. To ensure an emergency electricity supply, JEC supplied and installed two generator sets in the concourse. The generators ratings are 1500 kVA and 1100 kVA. JEC also designed and installed a fuel oil system which included two fuel storage tanks and two daily fuel tanks. This design ensures that the generators can function under abnormal conditions.

Supply and Installation High Voltage Alternate Current (HVAC) Pumps
JEC was also responsible for supplying and installing the air-conditioning equipment and ventilation equipment through four HVAC pumps. The pumps help the chiller system to control the temperature by using fresh water as an intermediate. The pumps cycle cooled water through the system; carrying heat away from the rooftop chiller. The pumps work at a pressure of 10 bar with a motor speed of 1450 rpm. One of the pumps has a capacity of 0.3 liters per second and the other a capacity of 3 liters per second. The energy efficiency of the pumps is around 60%.
