Chung Hing Engineers (CHE) supplied and installed theair conditioning system, electrical system, fire services installation, environmental monitoring systems and raised flooring system at a leading international telecommunication company’s award-winning data centre in the New Territories. The multiple floors facility is designed as a Tier III fully-redundant infrastructure with ISO-certified operations and security management, which has a gross area of over 200,000 ft2.   

CHE first completed the installation of half floor (on 1/F) of the client’s data centre facilities in 2007 further to winning an open tender. CHE’s flawless execution impressed and was later handed numerous contracts to construct and expand data halls on multiple floors over 5 year’s time.

Features and Highlights of CHE’s Installations at the Multiple Floors Facility:

  • With over 200 CRAC units installed, the optimum-efficiency cooling system incorporated is able to support an exceptionally high power density of up to over 5000W per m2
  • The facility is designed with a Tier III fully redundant infrastructure where every aspect of the facility is equipped with at least N+1 redundancy with multiple sources and multiple paths to the consumption points, ensuring that there is no single point of failure. The key features of its redundancy in power and cooling solutions include:
  • Dual Power feeds to every rack
  • N+1/ N+2 CRAC in each zone
  • To cater for the client’s business needs, all of the facilities were built with emphasis on scalability and flexibility.
    • Flexibility: Colocation space ranges from a single-rack to custom-built caged areas and dedicated private rack zones, with choices of standard power zone (per rack consumption from 1.5kVA to 3kVA) and high power zone (per rack consumption from 3kVA to 12kVA)
    • Scalability: Can also accommodate up to over 3000 racks with fully customizable options
  • Comprehensive range of stringent security measures such as Wi-Fi tracking & three factor authentication access controls were installed to protect mission-critical equipments and sensitive information from being accessed without authorization.

The fast track nature of data centre projects (Usually 3-6 months per contract) combined with the client’s stringent requirements was the biggest challenge aside of the already immense workload. However, despite the tight timeframe, CHE’s detailed planning and well-thought-out design prior to project implementation ensured zero project delays with hidden cost kept to a minimum.
