Project Completion DateJune 2011

The Jardine Engineering Corporation (JEC) supplied and installed a new air-conditioning system for the Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Mandarin Oriental is a flagship property of Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group which is one of the world’s leading luxury hotel groups. The newly designed and installed water cooled chiller water system provides increased energy efficiency compared to traditional air-cooled chiller water systems.

Scope of work

JEC replaced five air-cooled chillers with four high efficiency water-cooled chillers that each has a cooling capacity of 780, and cooling towers with all the necessary power and water connections. After the improvement works, the energy efficiency of the cooling system had been increased by approximately 40%.

Project challenge

Since the new chillers and cooling towers have to be installed in the basement and on the roof of the Mandarin Oriental respectively while the hotel was operating as usual, JEC set up a complete and effective noise control and site works program to minimize any disturbance to the hotel guests. JEC worked closely with the Mandarin to help ensure optimum project execution with the minimum disturbance to hotel daily operation, enabling the Mandarin to maintain the highest quality service to their guests during the project period.
